A Tanzania holiday is the perfect option if you are keen to visit the locations that most African-themed movies were filmed in. Here is some more information on the country and its people.
TANZANIA
Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Ngorongoro - do these names sound familiar? If so, you’ve probably seen a movie or two that were set in these uniquely African locations. Tanzania travel experiences are popular with visitors the world over, and with good reason - the country brims with alluring destinations that resonate with the magnetism of all that is wild and exotic.
Once on terra firma, it is possible to go from exploring ancient Swahili ruins to sipping cocktails on a pristine beach; from ascending Southern Highland slopes to traversing the arid landscapes that surround Ol Doinyo Lengai with a Maasai warrior as your guide. Best of all, despite its numerous tourist attractions, the country has managed to retain an unassuming air. It is free of tribal rivalries and hasn’t had any serious political upheavals, the likes of which have devastated many of its bordering countries.
The United Republic of Tanzania (the largest country in East Africa, including the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba) came into existence in 1964, three years after it initially gained independence from Britain.
Although it shares many characteristics with its northern neighbour (especially the Swahili culture and language) it has developed along more socialist lines than other popular African travel destinations like Kenya, and has not been as receptive toward foreign investment. Possibly for this reason Tanzania has not shown the growth in industry that Kenya has enjoyed and the casual visitor will notice many differences of this nature between the two countries.
However, Tanzania's game parks are, if anything, even better known than those of Kenya. The Serengeti National Park and neighbouring Ngorongoro Conversation Area are both world renowned, as is Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro. All of these highlights are within easy reach of Nairobi, attracting many tourists and earning Tanzania much needed foreign exchange.
